Dabur India Ltd, the world’s largest ayurvedic company, officially marked its entry into south Indian manufacturing today with a groundbreaking ceremony in Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu.

The event, which signals a major shift in Dabur’s supply chain strategy, was virtually inaugurated by Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin. The ceremony was attended by key state officials, including Minister for Industries Dr T R B Raja, highlighting the significance of this industrial expansion for the state’s economic landscape.

The company has committed a total investment of Rs 400 crore toward this world-class facility, with nearly one-third of the capital already being deployed for the initial execution phase. Strategically located at the SIPCOT Food Park, this plant is designed to be a faster and smarter hub that brings Dabur’s diverse product portfolio closer to the south Indian consumer base. CEO Mohit Malhotra emphasized that this move is a defining step for the brand, placing ‘Made in Tamil Nadu’ at the heart of their regional growth.

In its opening phase, the Tindivanam plant will focus on high-demand personal care products. Consumers can expect locally manufactured staples such as Dabur Red Toothpaste, Meswak, and the popular Dabur Gulabari and Vatika Hair Oil lines. As the facility scales, Dabur plans to expand production to include its iconic Réal Juices and Amla Hair Oil, eventually transforming the site into a primary pillar for the company's southern manufacturing network.

Beyond industrial output, the project is poised to be a significant driver for local socio-economic development. The facility is expected to generate direct employment for approximately 250 individuals while creating thousands of indirect job opportunities in the surrounding areas. Furthermore, Dabur intends to focus on building future-ready technical skills within the local community, ensuring that the economic benefits of the plant are felt deeply across the region.

A standout feature of this new venture is its commitment to ‘Green Manufacturing’. The facility is designed to operate on 100 per cent renewable energy, aligning with global sustainability goals. Global operations head, Saurabh Lal, noted that the plant is intended to be a benchmark for responsible manufacturing, featuring state-of-the-art technology and a highly inclusive work environment. Notably, the company plans for the plant to be operated by a predominantly female workforce.

With a 141-year legacy, Dabur remains one of India’s most trusted household names, currently reaching eight out of ten Indian homes. This new facility will support its massive portfolio, which includes eight ‘Power Brands’ like Dabur Chyawanprash and Honitus. By establishing a physical manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu, Dabur is not only expanding its footprint but also ensuring greater speed, freshness, and supply resilience for its growing customer base in the South.
