SonoSim develops comprehensive OB-GYN ultrasound programme to match training needs

Santa Monica, CaliforniaThursday, March 9, 2017, 17:00 Hrs  [IST]

SonoSim, Inc., the world’s leading provider of ultrasound education and training, has announced the development of a comprehensive OB-GYN ultrasound training programme. The programme is designed to assist OB-GYN graduate medical education and diagnostic medical sonography training institutions in preparing students to perform OB-GYN ultrasonography.

This SonoSim announcement is the result of discussions that took place during AIUM’s Beyond Ultrasound First Forum, an event hosted last fall that brought together leading practitioners and educators in Obstetrics and Gynecology dedicated to improving the quality and standardization of ultrasound training in medicine. At the forum, AIUM leaders discussed the need for OB-GYN training programs to develop a curriculum and competency evaluation process for OB-GYN ultrasound training.

“As residency programmes in obstetrics and gynecology and radiology have had to add more breadth of training into their curricula, the time spent learning ultrasound has likely diminished in many programmes,” stated Professor Alfred Z. Abuhamad, MD, Mason C. Andrews chairman and vice dean for Clinical Affairs at Eastern Virginia Medical School. “Given the technical difficulty inherent in ultrasound examinations, the presence of a comprehensive, standardized, and collaborative process for ultrasound training will significantly enhance the expertise of practitioners and the overall quality of ultrasound examinations.”

SonoSim’s comprehensive OB-GYN ultrasound training programme will deliver 12 modules with over 120 SonoSimulator hands-on, simulation-based training cases, including transvaginal ultrasound, across a variety of essential OB-GYN topics. Six obstetric and gynecologic SonoSim Modules covering a spectrum of pregnancy states and pathologies are already available for purchase. New SonoSim content focusing on GYN ultrasound is being released on a rolling basis throughout the first half of 2017. Each SonoSim Module consists of online didactic lessons, knowledge assessment, and real-patient hands-on training cases, including transvaginal ultrasound scanning.
