Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers Ananth Kumar visited the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER)-Ahmedabad campus located in Gandhinagar recently and announced that the first phase of NIPER-Ahmedabad will be completed within one year. He announced this during his visit to the institute at unveiling of NIPER Ahmedabad annual report for the year 2016-17 and documentary regarding the teaching and research activities.
While addressing the students and staff members, he said, “NIPER-Ahmadabad is the first among all the new NIPERs to have its own independent campus within a short span of four months and expressed his satisfaction towards the progress of the institute.”
Minister assured that the first phase of NIPER-Ahmedabad will be completed within one year. He said, “NIPERs are not built only to provide 100 per cent placements to the students but to train the students in world-class research. This will then enable them to discover new molecules and therapies for the treatment of cancer and other deadly diseases.”
Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), established 6 new NIPERs in 2007. NIPER Ahmedabad was also initiated with three programmes in the field of biotechnology, natural products and pharmaceutics and over a period of time, three more programmes – pharmaceutical analysis, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology were introduced in the year 2010. Subsequently in 2012, a unique medical device programme was initiated in NIPER Ahmedabad to cater and nurture the need of booming medical device industries in India and globally.
The syllabus of post graduate programme in medical devices named as M.S. (Pharm) in medical devices offered exclusively in NIPER Ahmedabad covers areas like medical imaging and instrumentation, nano-materials and bio-nanotechnology, regulatory perspectives of medical devices, computer application in biomedical engineering, cell biology and biochemistry, spectral analysis, biostatistics, fundamentals of intellectual property and technology, biological system analysis and control, productivity in management and re-engineering, bioelectricity & biomedical fluid dynamics, medical devices: production innovation & development, biomechanics and drug delivery systems.
