Healthcare Global Enterprises (HCG) the cancer care major teamed up Vattikutti Foundation to highlight the latest technological innovations in robotic surgery. These included Ravi Retractors and explore use of Nano Robots to study the individual cells.
Ravi Retractors was designed by Dr. Vishal Rao, Consultant, Head and Neck, Onco-Surgeon, HCG with help from Dr. Rajesh at HCG. Nano Robots are microscopic and help clinicians to pick selective cells, without injuring them thus further helping the doctors to study cells more precisely.
At a day long workshop held recently, HCG provided a realistic experience to doctors who are keen to learn and excel in surgical interventions. The live workshop was broadcasted via Virtual Instructor Led Traning (VILT) to ensure the optimal academic outreach.
The advancements, a Live Surgery was conducted by Dr. Vishal Rao, Consultant, Head and Neck, Onco-Surgeon, HCG along with Dr. J. Scott Magnuson a noted pioneer in the field of robotic-assisted head and neck surgery and Dr. Kaustubh Patel, Senior Consultant, Head & Neck Surgical Oncology, HCG Ahmedabad.
The workshop also witnessed the launch Ravi Retractors to perform neck dissections. Currently, there is only 1 retractor available globally , known as the Chung Retractor which costs around Rs. 10 lakh. Ravi Retractor was conceptualised to help perform neck dissections and plastic surgery in patients with early oral cancers where neck nodes are cleared for safety as an oncology protocol. This leaves an unwanted and unsightly scar in majority of patients, when the cancers have not spread to neck. In order to avoid the scar, Ravi Retractor was innovated as it makes the robotic surgery simpler with better visualisation.. In sync with the ‘Make in India’ initiative launched by the Government of India, Ravi Retractor will help many surgeons globally, stated HCG.
The nano robots enable extensive research on cancer cells to understand the biological behaviour to device the necessary treatment for the patients.
