CenTrak expands IoT efforts, BLE device exchange programme and low cost BLE beacon

Newtown, PennsylvaniaMonday, January 22, 2018, 10:00 Hrs  [IST]

CenTrak, the market leader in healthcare enterprise location services and KLAS category leader for real time location systems, announced it will embed Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon technology as a standard offering for its next generation Enterprise Location Services infrastructure.

Demand for CenTrak’s BLE-enabled infrastructure has grown dramatically. The company deployed over 550,000 IoT devices last year, to both current and new customers. For a limited time, CenTrak is offering its installed base of nearly 1,000 healthcare facilities an exchange program to take advantage of the new technology. The company is also introducing a standalone BLE beacon offered at an MSRP of $20 USD.

BLE has an increasingly ubiquitous presence on smartphones and other mobile devices, and offers the ability to embed IoT technology into various platforms. Additionally, BLE enables an immediate dialogue between CenTrak’s Enterprise Location Services infrastructure and a growing ecosystem of BLE tags. According to Accenture’s 2017 Internet of Health Things (IoHT) Survey, “…the value of IoHT will top US$163 billion by 2020. Within the next five years the healthcare sector is projected to be #1 in the top 10 industries for Internet of Things app development.”

CenTrak’s embedded BLE beacons offer advantages for healthcare organizations who ultimately want to scale wayfinding or asset tracking initiatives to true Enterprise Visibility. BLE functionality can be licensed independently from other technologies. For advanced use cases that require Clinical-Grade Locating, Second Generation Infrared (Gen2IR) and Low Frequency (LF) technology can be overlapped with BLE, Wi-Fi, UHF, and passive RFID to deliver the industry’s most robust locating capabilities.

Embedded BLE beacons offer distinct advantages over off the shelf beacons including: Interoperability – CenTrak’s Location Services are integrated with over 140 healthcare solutions; Reliability – Device supervision enables real time monitoring and power management using a graphic dashboard with drill down capabilities and alerting; Extreme battery life – Five-year battery warranty: Scalability – BLE can be licensed independently with the option to easily activate Gen2IR and LF technology capabilities in the future.

“From the day we launched CenTrak in 2008, we made a commitment to future-proof our installed base,” said Wil Lukens, Chief Commercial Officer of CenTrak. “The ability to embrace and innovate using new technologies is what has allowed us to meet this commitment. Our proven BLE offering and ability to blend BLE with other indoor locating technologies will continue to enable healthcare facilities to transform the patient experience and delivery of care.”
