After Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (SPIL) issued a legal notice to little known company Sun Generics for alleged misrepresentation on account of the similar sounding company names, the latter has decided to change the name. After SPIL issued a notice to Sun Generics, located in suburban Vile Parle, the company has agreed to desist from using the name Sun, a SPIL source said here today. It may be noted that Sun Generics is facing litigation from Dr Reddy''s for its trademark Omz, which is similar sounding to Dr Reddy''s brand omeprazole brand Omez. The product from Sun Generics has a similar strip/pack design as Dr Reddy''s. Omeprazole is a gastric proton pump inhibitor whch effectively controls gastric acid hyper secretion. In a press statement here, SPIL has clarified that it has no relationship whatsoever either directly or indirectly, as a business associate, vendor, supplier, trade channel partner or otherwise with Sun Generics. Sun Pharma does not have any generic business in India either. "We respect trademarks and the goodwill they signify, and will remain alert and actively work to protect our trademarks, pack designs and brand names from any infringement. All the brands and company names mentioned in this clarification are the property of their registered owners."
