IRIIM trained acupuncture medical practitioners receive recognisition from West Bengal Council of Acupuncture Therapy

The Council of Acupuncture Therapy, West Bengal have recognised IRIIM trained acupuncture doctors and they are now eligible for registration under 'Part-A' from 'Council of Acupuncture Therapy, West Bengal' till January 2002. IRIIM is Government of India recognized and partially aided non-government, non-profit R & D institute in the field of acupuncture. West Bengal is the first state in India to recognize acupuncture system of therapy officially and accordingly formed 'Council of Acupuncture Therapy, West Bengal' (under W.B. Act VIII of 1996). As per the Govt. Notification issued by the Council, IRIIM had applied for eligibility for registration under the said Council in respect to those acupuncture trained practitioners as well as freshers trained by IRIIM. IRIIM is running a college-hospital named 'Ranajit Memorial Hospital & Acupuncture-Yoga-Naturopathy College of Research' at Mourigram, Howrah, W.B. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, Central Council For Research in Yoga-Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi, and Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India have awarded IRIIM with research projects. For continuous work in R&D, IRIIM got the Recognition as Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) from DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Moreover, a Pro-Nature De-Addiction Center is also run with the sponsorship of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. Since its inception in 1981, IRIIM has been successfully imparting training on acupuncture system of therapy to qualified registered medical practitioners (e.g.MBBS/ BHMS /BAMS/DMS/DHMS or equivalent) and freshers (10+2 or Equivalent). Till January 2002, about 400 qualified registered medical practitioners and 350 freshers have received such training. IRIIM is following the same standard of teaching as per Chinese acupuncture institutions as well as WHO guideline on acupuncture training.
