The 20th Japanese Cyclodextrin Symposium and Asian Cyclodextrin (CD) Symposium 2002 held on September 9-10, 2002 in Chiba University at Japan witnessed about 200 delegates from Japan, China, India, Korea, Thailand and Singapore. Scientist working on CDs amongst Asian countries were invited to share their views on different aspects CD. Researchers had presented the research papers on various aspects of CDs including their medical and other industrial applications. Dr. Vavia, UDCT presented paper on "Preparation and characterization of CD complexes with NSAIDS (Nimesulide and Rofecoxib) and formulation development as tablet" and "CD complexation with anti-HIV drug and formulation development as tablet" Dr. Tayade faculty from Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai presented paper on "Inclusion complexation of Quercetin (Q) with (-CDs for chemotherapeutic investigation in cancer." In tumor growth assay; tumor growth activity was very much suppressed with the Q-(-CD complex in in-vivo animal studies. It acts as a synergistic effect with radiation therapy. Shiga, Yoshi, Abe and Furuta, from Tottori University presented paper on "Effect of CD addition on the degradation of triglyceride in waste water by yeast." Researchers from Research Institute, Nihon Shokuhin Kako, Co., Ltd. presented paper on "Decreasing effect on Acidity of L-lactic acid by (-CD." Prof. Hattori and his research group from Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics presented paper on "Synthesis of sialic acid-branched CDs and evaluation of the recognition with protein and drug." Akita University researchers, namely Muratani, Narita and Hamada presented papers on "Fluorescent molecular sensing system of regioselectively hetero-modified (-CDs having pyrene moiety." Aoki, Arai and Hattori from Kanagawa Industrial Technology Research Institute presented paper on "Removal of environmental Pollutant by CD bearing Chitosan." Kurauchi, Fujiwara, Inoue, Ohga and Yang, from Oita University and Seikei University presented their work on "Chiral ligand-exchange separation using modified CDs as chiral selectors." They synthesized (-CDs having cystein, valine, alanine moiety in their side chain and used as chiral selectors for the separation of (-amino acid and CBZ amino acid enantiomers by a ligand-exchange mode in capillary electrophoresis.
