iCAD Inc announced the availability of its new MammoWriter System, offering women's health centers the same effective CD technology offered by its MammoReader and MammoReader II models in a compact, stand-alone CAD solution for under $100,000. The MammoWriter is designed to provide CAD results in printed form for radiologist review. Computer aided detection using the MammoWriter system to supplement a routine screening mammogram can detect 23% of breast cancers an average of 14 months earlier than screening mammography alone. "A smaller health center can now offer the benefits of CAD to its patients," observed W. Scott Parr, Chief Executive Officer of iCAD Inc. "In addition to improving its breast cancer detection capabilities, the potential economic return to the women's health center is significant. For example, using the CADLease operating lease program now available for iCAD systems, a clinic can acquire a MammoWriter CAD system for total three-year lease costs of about $80,000, with first year lease charges of only $1,200 per month. In most situations, this should allow the health center to generate positive cash flow over the entire operating lease term. We believe this approach has the potential to rapidly accelerate the adoption of CAD technology among the 9,500 mammography clinics throughout the United States." Parr went on to elaborate on iCAD's ability to offer a CAD system at a lower price than competitive systems. "iCAD is the only company in our industry that controls production of both the software and the film digitizer components of its CAD technology. This allows us to configure systems to meet the specific needs of individual clinics and health centers, while controlling costs at each step in the design, production and assembly process." iCAD Computer Aided Detection systems are sold, installed, supported and serviced on an exclusive basis in the USA by Instrumentarium Imaging Inc.
