On occasion of children's day, a new peadiatric cardiac centre exclusive for newborns and infants was started at the Holy Family Hospital and Research Centre in Bandra. The new centre, which claims to be the first in the city, is an extension of the already existing Holy Family Heart Institute that was commissioned a year ago.
According to Dr Brian Pinto, head of the institute, "The new centre is an extension to the already existing heart institute that was started a year ago. The hospital decided to start the centre as there are close to 3 lakh children who are born with some form of congenital heart disease every year, which is quite alarming. And with no dedicated units to the cause, the need was even more discerning. The new centre will have exquisite facilities to treat children including new-borns and infants."
The new centre will have total 8 beds dedicated to neonatal ICCU. It has even procured two state-of-the-art Echo Doppler machines, Acusan from Siemens.
The hospital has allotted two days Thursday and Saturday for its OPD, which will be attended by well-known cardiac specialists from the city.
