Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, an Ahmedabad based ISO 9002 company, has launched a new formulation, Nam Cold, for management of various upper respiratory tract conditions like allergic rhinitis, coryza, common cold, vasomotor rhinitis and eustachain catarrh. These conditions often lead to symptoms such as low-grade fever, headache, bodyache, sneezing, running nose, blocked nose etc. Nam Cold is a combination of nimesulide, cetirizine and pseudoephedrine. Nimesulide, a potent antipyretic, is claimed to be different from the conventional paracetamol as it is known to reduce viral infection and have a longer duration of action of 12 hours. Cetrizine and pseudoephedrine, on the other hand are known to relieve effectively troublesome symptoms of sneezing, running nose and blocked nose. Having a longer duration of action requiring only twice daily administration makes the formulation acceptable to many patients. Cetirizine, a once daily medication is available in Nam Cold in half the dose, hence given twice daily. Although the formulation is safe to be used effectively in children above 12 years of age, its safety has not been established in pregnant and lactating women. In rare instances certain adverse effects like gastrointestinal disturbances, increased heart rate, dizziness and minor irritation of the skin have been reported with Nam Cold, a company release said.
