Eminent psychiatrist Dr A Venkoba Rao has been nominated by the Neurosciences India Group to receive the Life Time Achievement award for his valuable contributions to the development of psychiatry and clinical neurosciences in the country, according to a press communiqué. The award has been instituted by T S Srinivasan Institute of Neurology and Research , Madurai.
Dr Rao, known for his research contributions in the field of psychiatry, has to his credit 375 publications, which included a dozen books either edited or authored by him. Dr Rao, who has travelled widely and is known internationally, continues to contribute on depressive diseases, psychiatry of old age, suicidology and trans-cultural psychiatry.
He has developed a model of health care delivery to rural aged people at PHC level. He pioneered geriatric psychiatric research in India and has several publications on the subject.
