Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc has launched Necon 7/7/7 (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol tablets), a generic version of the oral contraceptive Ortho-Novum 7/7/7, marketed by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc. For 2002, Ortho-Novum 7/7/7 annual sales are estimated to be approximately $150 million. Necon 7/7/7 is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy. Watson has launched Necon 7/7/7 as part of a supply arrangement with OMJ Pharmaceuticals, an affiliate of Ortho-McNeil. "The launch of Necon 7/7/7 is an exciting market opportunity for Watson," said Joseph Papa, Watson's President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are confident that with this launch, and additional oral contraceptive launches expected throughout 2003, we will continue to build a strong position in women's health."
