Kerala govt to present healthcare projects of Rs 1496 crore at GIM

The State Government will present Rs 1496 crore worth projects in the health care sector in the Global Investors Meet (GIM) scheduled for 18th and 19th of this month, here at the International Convention Center. Among the projects, the already proposed Rs 769 crore Trauma Care Centers at various districts, the Holistic Village at Calicut and the Herbal Park at Malappuram are the major ones to be presented at the GIM. The expected cost for Holistic Village and Herbal Park are Rs 300 crore each. The State Government will also present a project for bio-medical waste management in the Municipalities at the cost of Rs 10 crore. The upgradation of Thiruvanthapuram, Kottayam and Alappuzha medical colleges at the cost of Rs 10 crore and the super specialty blocks at Thrissur and Calicut medical colleges are also on the cards. State government plans to develop these medical colleges with private participation. The other projects include the expansion of blood banks in 11 district hospitals and five general hospitals. The expected cost of this project is Rs 37 crore. The State health ministry also plans to put forward a proposal for the laboratory expansion at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College at the cost of Rs 17 crore and another Rs 127 crore project for ward expansions of the general hospitals in the State. It will also invite private participation for proposed Imaging Centers at district hospitals at the rate of Rs 183 crore and diagnostic centers with an expected cost of Rs 30 crore. The Global Investors Meet scheduled at the International Convention Centre at Cochin will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, A. B.Vajpayee. According to the organizers of GIM, Kerala will witness the convergence of global businessmen in Kochi, the commercial capital of the State by Global Investor Meet.
