Dabur Chyawanprash, when used as an adjunct with vitamins and haematinics, almost eliminates severe radiation reactions in head and neck cancer patients. This is in addition to the immunity that is built by Dabur Chyawanprash to prevent common ailments.
These are the findings of a study conducted by King George Medical College (KGMC), Lucknow, that conducted this research on 75 cancer patients receiving radiotherapy treatment at KGMC. The patients were divided into three groups, one group received only Dabur Special Chyawanprash, second group received Dabur Special Chyawanprash with vitamins and haematinics, while the third group only received vitamins and haematinics.
"Mouth ulcer and burning of skin are the most common complication in patients receiving radiation in cancer. Radiotherapy, if supported by ayurvedic rasayana products helps to reduce the severity of these complications and improves the quality of life which otherwise becomes miserable." said Dr C K Katiyar, Dabur Research Foundation, an independent research foundation.
The outcome of the study concluded that Dabur Chyawanprash reduces the occurrence of mouth ulcers and burning of the skin. No patient suffered from severe radiation reactions in the group receiving Dabur Special Chyawanprash with haematinics and vitamins as compared to 4.2 per cent patients in group receiving only Chyawanprash and 10.5 per cent in group on haematinics and vitamin supplementation only.
"Dabur Chyawanprash helps in improving the haemoglobin levels, the essential component of blood. Haemoglobin levels rose by 58.3 per cent in Dabur Chyawanprash and 50 per cent in group receiving Dabur Chyawanprash with haematinics and vitamins as compared to only 36.8 per cent with haematinics supplementation" said Dr Katiyar.
As per WHO estimates, in India, the number of head and neck cancer patients is the highest amongst all cancers.
According to International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC) data of WHO (2000), over one lakh new cases of cancer are registered every year in Indian males and radiation therapy is one of the most commonly used treatments for these cancers.
