A two-day seminar that would delve on the advancements and remarkable changes in the field of endodontics is to be held at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Mumbai on the 22nd and 23rd February 2003. The event, which is claimed to be the first in the country, is being organized by Kalabhai Karson Pvt Ltd. and would see the gathering of more than 150 dentists from around the country. The event is to be inaugurated by Padmashri Dr Anil Kohli, Dental Health Advisor to the Government of India. With 'Endodontics: Back to the Roots" as the central theme, the event would investigate the advancements and developments that have been made in the last one decade in the field of dentistry. Advancements in endodontics, in specific, has been selected as the topic of choice at the meet. The field of endodontics has seen remarkable changes in the past one decade. Microsurgical techniques, modern armamentarium and equipment are just some of the innovations that are available to dentists today. With endodontics being the preferred choice among dentists, a clinician could suddenly look into root canals, whether ortho or retrograde. This has fundamentally changed the clinician's understanding of the morphology and complexities involved and his perception in general about the procedure. Says Rajen Nandwana, managing director of Kalabhai Karson Pvt Ltd., "The concept was first introduced in Sweden about 40 years back, but India has yet to familiarize itself on the subject. Though, about 1 million people worldwide have been treated with this procedure nothing has been done in India to get doctors to practice this use. By organizing this meet we hope to impart new techniques and innovations to the clinicians who in turn could use it in their daily practice as well." Nandwana has specially flown in Dr. Peter Velvart, internationally acclaimed endodontist from Switzerland, who will be offering his experience and expertise for the benefit of Indian clinicians for the first time in India. The topics range from, treatment principals of vital and non-vital teeth options to the modern concept on treatment horizons including microendodontics and micro-surgery, as well as endo-perio lesions and tomography. The event would also include a hands-on workshop on the latest series of Zeiss Microscopes, OPMI PICO. The OPMI PICO microscope as a tool goes beyond endodontics and is useful in prosthodontics, periodontics and even in general day-to-day practice. Fifteen microscopes are being specially flown down from Germany for the event.
