The International Medical Integration Council (IMIC), an association of physicians from different specialties formed to dissipate the concept of medical integration, would be organizing their annual Lifetime Achievement Awards at Hotel Taj on the 20th of April 2003.
The awardees shortlisted by the association for the Lifetime Achievement Award this year are Mr. Habil Khorakiwala, chairman of Wockhardt Ltd., Dr. K H Sancheti, renowned orthopedic surgeon and Dr Arvind Lal, managing director, Dr Lal Path Labs (LPL). The award would include a medallion and a citation to be presented by the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Mohammed Fazal who would be the chief guest for the occasion.
Every year, IMIC selects aspirants on the basis of their contribution and expertise in their respective medical fields. Dr K H Sanchetti, renowned orthopaedic surgeon is known for pioneering the concept of Joint Replacement Therapy. A Padma Bhushan awardee this year, Dr Sancheti was on the panel of surgeons who was selected to operate on the prime minister's knee last year.
Dr Arvind Lal, managing director and founder of Dr. Lal Path Labs (LPL) is known for harnessing newer concepts in pathology diagnosis. Today, LPL is known to offer over 1,400 different investigations and panels in the discipline of molecular diagnostics, biophysics, virology, flow cytometry and critical tests of LDL subfraction and neo-natal tests. LPL presently has eight pathological labs, which are mostly located in the national capital region and would be having 30 labs by 2005 spread out in east and south regions of the country. Dr Lal has also been the honorary physician to the Prime Minister and President of India for several years.
Habil Khorakiwala, chairman of Wockhardt Ltd has been instrumental in taking the company amongst the 50 most valuable companies in India. Established nearly four decades ago, Wockhardt Limited today is a research and technology oriented pharmaceutical company ranked amongst the top 5 in India. It has also emerged as a leading player in domestic as well as international markets.
The IMIC is an association of physicians from different specialties who are bought under one roof to exchange views and enhance knowledge about each other.
