Orthofix has renewed its co-marketing agreement with Medtronic Sofamor Danek, under which Medtronic will continue to leverage its sizeable sales force to market, sell and distribute Spinal-Stim to orthopedic and neuro spine surgeons across the U.S. This agreement, which was originated in 1998, will continue under similar terms and conditions and is effective immediately.
"We believe that the renewal of this agreement further substantiates the extraordinary potential of our bone growth stimulation technology," said Charles W. Federico, Group President & CEO, Orthofix International, NV. "This agreement will continue to provide us with a significant opportunity to leverage Medtronic Sofamor Danek's substantial sales reach and fortify Spinal- Stim's market share."
Orthofix's Spinal-Stim is the first FDA-approved external bone growth stimulator for spine fusion, and consists of a pair of electromagnetic coils covered in soft material worn around the back and over the abdomen, over clothing, for a minimum of two hours per day. The device produces an electrical signal at the fusion site similar to the one the patient's own body generates to induce normal bone healing in high-risk patients.
