The District Administration seized drugs worth around Rs 35 lakh from the factory of Parental Drugs (India) Private Ltd here on suspicion that contaminated water was used to manufacture them. The officials have also registered cases against the factory owners for irregularities relating to weighing machines used in the manufacturing process. The suspicion arose after around 11 workers of the factory were rushed to Mayur Hospital with severe vomiting and diarrhea a few days back. The workers had complained that the water used at the factory was contaminated and had led to their condition. The District Administration officials had received tip-off that the same water was used for the manufacture of the drugs. Acting on the instructions of District Collector Mohd Suleman, ADM Manish Singh conducted the raid at the factory and took stock of the situation. Later a team of drug inspectors led by Dr Sharad Pandit, Joint Director, Health Services, took samples of the water and drugs at the factory. Though the factory owners cleaned the water tank, the drugs manufactured in the past 10 days were stored in the godowns. The exact nature of the drugs are not disclosed as yet, but majority of them were injectables and dextrose IV, said sources. According to ADM Manish Singh, large-scale irregularities were found at the factory relating to the three weighing machines used to prepare the drugs. The Weights and Measures Department officials have registered cases against the factory owners under Section 24/47 of the Weights and Measures Act, 1985. The officials are currently interrogating the factory directors M L Gupta and Vinod Gupta. The samples collected during the raid are sent to State laboratory for testing. Further action is being taken.
