BDMA, an all-India association representing the bulk drugs manufacturers, is organising a seminar on Intellectual Property Rights in Hyderabad on June 20. The one-day seminar is to create an awareness about the importance of intellectual property, particularly patents, its creation, protection and management. A press release issued by BDMA on Wednesday said intellectual property had become a key consideration in day-to-day business decisions due to the prevailing highly knowledge-driven economy and the new economic order resulting from the WTO-TRIPS agreement. The year 2005 is fast approaching, when India would have to make some vital changes in the existing IP laws to conform to the TRIPS agreement. The statement said it was the right time to start dedicating resources and also time for creation, protection and management of intellectual property to stay on in the competitive global market. BDMA had decided to assist the industry in sourcing human resources for creating, protecting and maintaining the intellectual property of the industry by conducting a series of practical training programmes on IPR with emphasis on Patent Laws. As part of this programme, the first one-day seminar will be held in Hyderabad at its newly inaugurated Training Centre on June 20. The seminar will cover among others, the evolution of IPR, WTO and TRIPS, and a brief introduction to various IPRs – Copyright, Patents, Trade Marks, Industrial Design, Geographical Indications etc. The programme, designed to meet the requirements of senior and middle management professionals in the industry, who are responsible for the management of IPR, entrepreneurs, legal professionals etc, will be conducted by Dr G G Nair, eminent patents attorney and advisor of BDMA.
