TorontoWednesday, June 4, 2003, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

MDS Sciex the analytical instrumentation division of MDS Inc and Eksigent Technologies, a leader in the growing field of microfluidics announced today that MDS Sciex will co-market and distribute Eksigent's NanoLC system on a global basis. The NanoLC system is the first HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) system to allow nanoscale LC/MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) without flow splitting. The newly launched NanoLC Proteomics system is based on Eksigent's Microfluidic Flow Control (MFC) technology, which uses rapid feedback to an electronically controlled pressure source to maintain precise nanoscale flow rates. The NanoLC system does not require flow splitting, as is necessary with currently available technologies for nanoscale chromatography. In addition to being a stand-alone product, the NanoLC system can also be used in LC/MS identification of peptides for proteomics studies. The system provides significant enhancements in detection sensitivity and reproducibility, while simultaneously improving ease of set-up, operation, and maintenance. The NanoLC system will include a complete line of instruments and consumables. Initial system deliveries are scheduled for summer 2003. "The commercial launch of the NanoLC follows a successful early access program. We're delighted to have MDS Sciex, a globally respected leader in analytical instrumentation, marketing the system with us." said Jeff Jensen, Chief Operating Officer of Eksigent. "This agreement leverages our expertise in mass spectrometry and protein separations technology, and provides our distribution channels with a complementary new product line. The NanoLC system is an ideal fit with our growing range of technology solutions for proteomics," said Murray Wigmore, Senior Vice-President for Sales and Marketing at MDS Sciex.
