NIPER to organize symposium on Medicine Information

The Department of Pharmacy Practice at NIPER is organizing a "National Symposium on Medicine Information" on August 9, 2003. This one-day national symposium will provide an opportunity to have deliberations with Satpal Soor (Principal Pharmacist) and Yuet Wan (Senior Medicines Information Pharmacist) of Guy's & St. Thomas Hospital, UK on the establishment, day-to-day functioning and quality assurance of a Medicine Information centre. Prof. Ranjit Roy Chaudhury, President - Delhi Society for Promotion of Rational Use of Drugs (DSPRUD), would be delivering the keynote address. This symposium will be of interest to the healthcare professionals, pharmacy educators, students in pharmacy practice, hospital pharmacists and all those who are involved in the retrieval, management and dissemination of health related information. In 1962, the first drug information center was opened at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, USA and it was intended to be used as a source of selected and comprehensive drug information for physicians, dentists & nursing staff. The Medicine Information Centre (MIC) at NIPER has become functional since April this year. It has been established under the aegis of "Higher Education Link Scheme" supported by DFID and managed by the British Council. The Department is having collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, University of London, UK ever since its inception. The participants will be provided hands on experience in information retrieval and management.
