PharmaMar S.A. announced that Dr. Miguel Angel Izquierdo, Director of Clinical Oncology since October 2002, has been appointed Director of the Clinical Research Department. Dr. Izquierdo joined the company from the Instituto Catalan de Oncologia of Barcelona (Spain), where he was working as an expert in the treatment of gynaecological tumours and Coordinator of the New Drugs Development Programme.
Dr. M.A. Izquierdo replaces Dr. Jose Maria Saro, former responsible of the department who has left the company. In his new capacity, Dr. Izquierdo will lead a team of 44 scientists and clinical administrators and be responsible for the ongoing clinical development programme for PharmaMar's four compounds, three of which are in Phase II studies.
Dr. Jose Antonio Lopez takes over from Dr. Izquierdo as Director of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Lopez joined PharmaMar in October 2000. He has been involved in the development of Yondelis and he has led the development of Aplidin in particular.
Furthermore, PharmaMar announced the recent appointment of Luis Ruperez as Director of Human Resources, replacing Justo Covaleda. Ruperez has gained long experience in the pharmaceutical sector, particularly in Antibioticos Farma S.A. and Servier Espana.
