Conference on techniques for isolating and characterizing drug polymorphs

New YorkWednesday, August 13, 2003, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Center for Pharmaceutical Training is organizing its Polymorphism & Crystallization Forum in Philadelphia, PA, November 10-12, 2003. This conference examines the business impact of polymorphism and crystallization on drug companies and delves into strategies and processes for polymorph and crystallization characterization and selection. Dr. Joel Bernstein from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev will moderate the event and discuss "Determination and Consequences of Structure-Activity Relations in Polymorphs/Crystal Forms." He has published over 130 research and review articles on these subjects and is the sole author of a recent (2002) book entitled "Polymorphism in Molecular Crystals", published by Oxford University Press. Dr. Bernstein has also served as a consultant to a number of pharmaceutical companies and as a testifying witness in litigations on the solid state chemistry of drugs. I believe that his scientific and legal perspective on polymorphism and crystallization issues provide a unique and valuable perspective to this event. Other companies and organizations presenting at the conference include Bristol-Myers Squibb, Avantium Pharma, Solvias AG, Lasentec, Eli Lilly & Co., Schering-Plough Research Institute, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Sepracor, DSM Pharma Chemicals, Abbott Laboratories, Transform Pharmaceuticals, and more. The Center for Pharmaceutical Training, a division of the International Quality and Productivity Center, is the world's premier training and development resource for drug and medical device development, learning, and performance. The Center for Pharmaceutical Training provides objective information, research, analysis, and practical information through its conference, training courses, and electronic newsletters.
