Manipal to infuse Rs.150 cr in upgradation of Manipal Academy of Higher Education Campus

Manipal Group, one of India's leading education and healthcare providers today announced that they would infuse Rs.150 crore in the upgradation and improvement of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. This would include the state-of-the-art Life Science Centre, High-end computing facility and an upgraded campus in Manipal. The Group now plans to utilise this campus for new intellectual activity. Manipal will be focussing on Research initiatives and Consulting work which would account for over 30 per cent of the revenue for the University in future. Another announcement made on the occasion was the appointment of Dr. H. S. Ballal as Vice Chancellor Manipal Academy of Higher Education who will assume charge on September 1, 2003 in place of Dr BM Hegde who is superannuating after four decades of meritorious service with Manipal. The Manipal Group which has two Universities, 21 professional colleges and 11 hospitals under its wings has 50 years of expertise in education and healthcare. Dr. Pai announced two other key appointments of Dr. J S Nagra VSM, as Pro - Vice Chancellor & Dean of Maleka Manipal Medical College in Malaysia and Dr. Dham PVSM as CEO in Nepal, where Manipal has a Medical College and Teaching Hospital at Pokhara. In health sciences and technology education, the Manipal experiment has succeeded and the Manipal institutions have established a track record in the private sector in Asia. The Government of India conferred a deemed university status to the major Manipal institutions on June 1, 1993, which led to setting up of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The Manipal group of institutions have now entered the fifth decade of professional education in Medicine, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied Health, engineering, Information Sciences, Management, Hotel Management, Communications, Art, Sciences, Commerce & Law, Distance Education and Online Education Programs.
