CII organizes Indian Healthcare Mission to UK

Indian healthcare industry leaders will meet their UK counterparts as part of a healthcare mission intending to showcase Indian capabilities in the specialized areas of cardiology and cardiac surgery, oncology, minimal invasive surgery, joint replacement and manpower. The Mission, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), with support from Indian Healthcare Federation, is to take forward the dialogue initiated between the UK Healthcare Mission that visited India and the Indian Healthcare Industry recently. Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman, CII National Committee on Healthcare, is leading the Mission from September 1-5, 2003, stated a CII release. The CII mission, besides showcasing Indian healthcare facilities, would hold dialogues with UK Healthcare Industry and National Healthcare System (NHS) to understand the health system that exists in UK. It would also explore scope for collaboration between the two countries in healthcare delivery, technological advances in medical equipment and health insurance. The highlight of the mission will be the meeting with Lord Warner, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health (Lords), Gail Arnold, Deputy Director of Overseas Commissioning and meeting with Helen Walley, Chief Executive, Primary Care trust and a travel to BUPA Head Office. The CII delegation will also hold a meeting with Pamella Garside, CEO, International Health Summit. The outcome of the Indo-British Seminar cum Business Meeting in Healthcare held on February 10, 2003 in New Delhi, proved to be an eye opener in realising the true potential that exists between the two countries vis-à-vis, healthcare. It was the first joint activity with UK in the healthcare sector, and this mission is reciprocating the visit to further provide impetus to the healthcare movement gained from the UK Healthcare Mission that visited India. India has become the emerging healthcare hub in South East Asia and this sector has made impressive strides. From Rs 86,000 crore industry in 2001, it is expected to touch Rs 270,000 by 2012, and the CII mission holds great significance towards achieving that target. The CII delegation will include Suneeta Reddy, Vice President, Indian Healthcare Federation & Director Finance, Apollo Hospital Group, Harpal Singh, Chairman, CII Task Force on UK & Chairman, Fortis Healthcare Ltd, Dr S K Sama, Chairman - Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Vishal Bali, Vice President (Operations), Wockhardt Ltd, P H Lele, Chief Executive Officer, P D Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Col Manesh Masand, Director General (Administration), Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Dr Virendra R Bhimani, Executive Vice President, Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre and D A Prasanna, Executive Chairman, Manipal Education & Medical Group, amongst others.
