Apollo starts 60 bed Apollo-K.H.Hospital at Vellore

The Apollo Hospital group has started a 60-bed multi-specialty hospital at Vellore in association with the Vellore based leather major K.H.Group. According to sources, the Apollo-K.H. Hospital set up at Melvisharam near Vellore, would be expanded to a multi-specialty 160-bedded hospital within the next two years. Built on a ten acre land, the 40, 000 sq.ft. facility is meant to offer high quality healthcare at cost-effective and affordable rates to the needy and poor in the Vellore town and suburban villages. With the motto of 'Wellness to the community', the hospital would focus on community health development with special emphasis to women and children. The hospital has about 20 specialty departments, including state of the art cardiology, diabetology, ENT and Nephrology departments, besides support facilities like blood bank, 24 hour trauma care unit, operation theatres, critical care units, 24 hour pharmacy, preventive health check up facility, CT Scan, X-Ray, UV colour Doppler, spiral CT scan and other lab services. In future, the hospital would install a dedicated telemedicine department, with link to the main Apollo hospital in Chennai. According to Dr.Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospital group, the facility at Vellore would help the 30-lakh odd people in the region not to travel all the way to Chennai for getting the Apollo treatment. The Apollo Hospital group is also planning to introduce a medical insurance cum treatment scheme for the working class in and around Vellore and North Arcot districts. As per the tie up with the Rs.300 crore K.H. group of Vellore, Apollo is taking care of administration and healthcare aspects of the hospital, while the K.H. Foundation deals with financial back up and setting up of infrastructure.
