Strand Genomics Pvt. Ltd., the life sciences informatics company has launched Acuris 1.0, a research accelerator tool offering a solution to life sciences organizations in the early stages of a discovery program. Acuris is an enterprise-wide tool for the automated annotation and management of gene-related data. Acuris gathers, parses, persists and presents gene-related public information and curated literature from virtually any public or private source in order to manage collaborative discovery processes. The system is designed to be entirely web-based with the server residing at the customer facility for ease of installation, security, and fast return on investment. Acuris uses an industry-standard 3-tier architecture, allowing straight-forward integration with existing applications whenever necessary. Acuris' intuitive, point-and-click screens allow scientists to go from sequence/gene id submission to visualization and storing of comments and files all on their desktop, without the need for any special programming knowledge. Acuris runs on Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and Solaris operating systems, and can be implemented on thin-client devices. "Acuris has been developed jointly with our clients who have been using it internally for their discovery research and collaborative work. Acuris has resulted in a significant increase in research productivity in all client locations." said Dr. Ramesh Hariharan, CTO, Strand Genomics. Acuris provides scientists with a time-saving, customized view of their research without the need for complex programming skills, and allows sharing and hypothesis building between collaborators and research groups, he stated. Strand Genomics is focused on software for drug discovery and development. The company has leveraged its core strengths in data mining and analysis, knowledge management and workflow processes to develop its products Avadis for data analysis and visualization and Acuris for automated curation, annotation and collaboration. The Bangalore-based company has a marketing office in California.
