Zyomyx Inc announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office recently issued two additional patents related to the company's biochip technologies, including the company's Protein Profiling Biochip System and protein biochips. On June 24, 2003, Zyomyx was issued U.S. Patent No. 6,582,969, covering a high-throughput screening method utilizing a microfluidic device with multiple channels or lanes for the detection of biomolecular activity. The second patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,596,545, was issued on July 22, 2003 and relates to a multiple-channel microfluidic device with applications in the automation of sample handling and sample processing. These patents are part of a growing intellectual property portfolio that pertains to the parallel, in vitro screening of biomolecular activity using miniaturized micro-fabricated devices which have applications in drug development, clinical diagnostics, and proteomic and genomic research. The two new patents serve to extend and reinforce the Zyomyx' portfolio of previously issued patents covering related screening devices and their methods of use for high density screening of biomolecular activity.
