Prof. Chandrakant Kokate, Vice-Chancellor, Kakatiya University, AP participated in the General Conference of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) held at Queen's University, Belfast, UK. Kokate presented the paper entitled ' Engaging With Economic Development Through Commercialization Of Research; Challenges And Opportunities For Universities In Less Developed Countries'.
In his paper, Kokate touched upon current status of research exploitation in Universities of developing countries and strategies to be adopted to meet the challenges ahead in Post-GATT era. An agenda for action was also spelt out with emphasis on establishment of 'Incubation Centres' of international standards in the Universities and benchmarking of research.
It was also suggested to develop mechanism for utilizing higher education as an integral component of indigenous human resource development for building up of capabilities in innovations, skill-full operations and problem solving in current day education system in developing countries.
The conference was attended by around 300 Vice- Chancellors from nearly fifty countries.
