Cordys Asia, formerly known as Vanenburg Asia, provides Quality Manager -a packaged software solution targeted at pharmaceutical and other process industry for product quality management. Shaurin R Shah, asst. vice president, quality solutions, Cordys Asia told Pharmabiz.com that Quality Manager is an end to end quality management solution, tailored to the needs of pharmaceutical industry. Cordys Quality Manager provides a comprehensive functionality pertaining to quality assurance and control, inspection management, supplier management, non-conformance management, which companies can use for dispersed geographical locations. Many companies in the west had been using it for over a decade, and Cordys is now aiming at serving the Indian pharmaceutical companies, besides companies in the other process industries. Its web services architecture makes it vendor neutral, which means it can be interfaced with other ERP systems easily, he explained. The Quality Manager (QM) can help a pharmaceutical firm in maintaining Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), which are very essential both to meet regulatory needs and to win over competitors. This will ensure that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards and will minimize the risk in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. In addition to this, it can help boost export opportunities. In the absence of such tool, pharma companies may face problems such as wrong materials getting into production, wrong specifications getting assigned, over-testing or under testing done, non calibrated equipment being used leading to erroneous results, faulty batches getting 'forced-pass', trouble in tracing history during audits or even market recall and litigation etc. At the times of audit, it can present vital data such as 'who did what and when', in addition to maintenance of skills and qualifications record, the standard operating procedure used, recalibration schedule etc. Supplier management can also be effectively undertaken with well-defined supplier selection and registration, audit and rating procedures, rating criteria. Periodic re-evaluation of suppliers considering their deliveries and non-conformances can also be addressed by the system. Shaurin Shah says, "Quality does not mean cost. Just by making correct 'accept' or 'reject' decisions, Cordys Quality Manager can help companies save the costs incurred due to rejections, goods-returned, lost customers, scrap and extra purchasing. Companies can also bet on Quality Manager for other process quality initiatives like Six Sigma and ISO."
