Our Bureau, HyderabadFriday, December 5, 2003, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Bioinformatics Centre of Bose Institute, Kolkata is organizing a two-day symposium on ‘Bioinformatics for Genome Analysis’ on 29th and 30th of January 2004. Bioinformatics for genome analysis is now essential for an in depth understanding of different biological processes such as regulation of gene expression, the function of non-coding sequences, genome organization molecular evolution, population genetics, inherited disorders and phylogenetic analysis. These computational methods have added a new dimension to understanding biological processes, which were earlier addressed by using genetic, molecular biological and microbiological tools. The aim of this symposium is to bring together people using bioinformatics for different aspects of genome analysis and to have a closer interaction with students and scientists who are interested in this field. Various speakers participating in the event include Prof. Giorgio Bernardi (Italy), Prof. John Samuelson (USA), Dr. Giuseppe D’ Onofrio (Italy), Prof. FG Alvarez Valin (Uruguay), Prof. AS Kolaskar (Pune), Prof. A Bhattacharya (New Delhi), Prof. R Ramaswamy (New Delhi), Prof. K Dharmalingam (Madurai), Dr A Lohia (Kolkata), Prof. A N Lahiri Majumdar (Kolkata), Dr. DC Dutta (Kolkata), Dr A Dasgupta (Kolkata), Prof. Partha P Majumdar (Kolkata), Prof. AR Thakur (Kolkata), Prof. SE Hasnain (Hyderabad), Dr TC Ghosh (Kolkata).
