Life sciences research institute to be set up at University of Hyderabad

A life sciences research institute of international standards is to be set up in the premises of University of Hyderabad, soon. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed by Y Narasimhulu, registrar of the University and Institute of Life Sciences director GV Prasad. The institute will provide an ideal platform for industry-academia partnership. There is also a proposal to set up an incubator and science park for research in new frontiers of sciences like biomedical engineering and nanotechnology. The institute would undertake research for drug development. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories donated Rs.10 crore to the institute’s corpus. The University of Hyderabad has allocated 25 acres of land in its campus for the institute. The institute is likely to be developed on the lines of the John Hopkins or the Scripps Research Institute in the US.
