The Radiation Oncology department of the Apollo Specialty Hospitals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute, Donauspital, Vienna to develop common guidelines for patient treatment and mutual adaptation of innovative practices related to applied radiation research.
The collaboration will work towards quality assurance for treatment planning procedures and delivery in the field of medical physics, especially in inverse treatment planning and treatment delivery for IMRT with Multileaf Collimator. In the field of radiation oncology, the MoU will cover assessment of treatment plan, definition of target volume, assessment of treatment result and patient’s follow-up in view of treatment outcome and side effects. The collaboration would include exchange of information through Internet and knowledge sharing of physicists and physicians through workshops and symposiums, said an Apollo communication.
According to Preetha Reddy, managing director of Apollo Hospitals, the collaboration will help Apollo Hospitals to provide the best possible service to the patient through the benefit of common wisdom, and to establish common guidelines for patient treatment as well as mutual adaptation of innovative practices.
“Radiation Oncology is a very complex specialty which requires close co-operation of physicians, physicists and technical staff. Quality control and quality assurance are also important aspects of treatment. We look forward to this mutual collaboration which will only help us serve our patients better and pave the way for advanced healthcare” said Dr Janos Stumpf, administrator and director, Research Oncology, Apollo Specialty Hospitals, according to the release.
