NRC scientist Dr Saran Narang joins Nicholas Piramal

Dr. Saran Narang, one of the world’s most renowned molecular biologists, has been appointed to Nicholas Piramal Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Narang, who has been the principal research officer, Genetic Research programme at the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada since 1981, will bring to board his vast experience and expertise in the field of biotechnology and research. At Nicholas Piramal, Dr. Narang will work on the current Cancer Research Programme. Dr. Narang’s pioneering work in the area of diabetes to develop a total synthesis of human pro-insulin gene, gave him Officer of the Order of Canada, 1985. His works in the area of synthetic DNA has inspired several Nobel Prize winning research in DNA sequencing. Born in 1930 at Agra, India, Dr. Saran A. Narang made his way to Canada after graduating from Punjab University and receiving a Ph.D. from Calcutta University in 1961. He completed his post-doctoral work from the Johns Hopkins University in 1962. Dr. Narang has spent his professional career at the NRC where, since 1981, he has been the principal research officer, Institute for Biological Sciences. He has published over 200 papers and patents and edited two monographs; DNA and RNA Synthesis and its application, Academic Press and b Protein Engineering: approaches from Classical to Genetics, Butterworth.
