Burrill to offer partnership services to Indian drug firms

California-based Burrill & Company, which assists life sciences companies in strategic partnerships, is looking at India to offer the services with prime focus on therapeutics and discovery technology. Burrill is currently evaluating companies based in cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai to offer such services. The Indian companies need to be innovative, understand IP and should have proven ability in drug discovery to be able to get good partners, worldwide. Besides India, Burrill is keen in serving companies located in Japan, China and Singapore, Dr Sanuj K Ravindran, managing director of the company told Pharmabiz.com. Dr Ravindran added that the company strives to build partnerships ranging from licensing of small or large molecules to research collaborations to mergers and acquisitions. It also works with life sciences companies to spin-out internal assets and capitalize on their value, ranging from the outright sale of products or businesses to creation of new companies to exploit these assets. The company serves the sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, drug discovery and enabling technologies, drug delivery, medical devices and bio-agricultural technologies. The deal-making team at Burrill has so far closed over 25 transactions with $1.5 billion in value, Dr Ravindran revealed.
