The Mumbai based Nicholas Piramal will contest the testing procedure followed by the Drugs Control department laboratory in Ghaziabad for reporting the product Tixylix as sub-standard, a company release said. According to NPIL, thin layer chromatography is an inappropriate test used by the department to determine the presence of the active molecule in their proprietary formulation, Tixylix. "The testing should have been done using high pressure liquid chromatography, the standard procedure for ascertaining the presence of a molecule, both qualitatively and quantitatively," a NPIL spokesperson said. Tixylix contains a controlled substance and is subject to strict testing by the drug administration in Gujarat, where it is manufactured. The Baroda laboratory of Gujarat FDA has tested the samples of the same product and reported it to be of 'standard quality', the release stated.
