The Union commerce ministry has given an assurance to the Executive Committee members of Pharmexcil that the official circular in regard to the formal clearance to start the operation of the new Council will be issued on the next working day after the Parliament election. S Ramasundaram, Joint Secretary of the Department of Commerce, in a meeting with the Pharmexcil members is reported to have said that there are no more legal issues in clearing Pharmexcil and the Department is just waiting for the elections to get over. D B Mody, the chairman designate of Pharmexcil informed Pharmabiz.com that the joint secretary has ruled out any more legal issues to issue the letter as the Commerce Ministry had given the in principle nod to the Council. "Since the government's priority is to encourage the export growth, it can always look into new options to optimize the services. For this, the government is also open to make timely revisions in its policies. Pharmexcil was one of such need-based proposals, said the joint secretary while speaking to the Pharmexcil members. Meanwhile, the Election Commission, which had received few complaints on the AP Government funding for the ministry stipulated corpus fund for the new Council, is learnt to have rejected the pleas as unsubstantial. It may be recalled that the Drug Development Promotion Board (DDPB) constituted for managing the funds earmarked for the promotion of research and development in drugs and pharmaceuticals had declined to entertain the proposal of Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council (Chemexcil) for a representation in the Board recently it has felt that has felt that the inclusion of the Chemexcil representative would not be appropriate as a separate export promotion council (Pharmexcil) for drugs and pharmaceuticals is to be operational any time now.
