Ivax Corporation has acquired a manufacturing facility at Calzada del Hueso, outside of Mexico City and near Ivax Mexico's present facilities. The Calzada del Hueso complex, previously owned by Pfizer Inc, consists of more than 160,000 square feet of manufacturing, laboratory, office and warehouse space. This facility will be used to produce solids, liquids, injectables, creams and ointments (cephalosporins, hormones, oncologic, and biotech drugs), a company release said. "This facility will form an important part of our programme to rationalize our manufacturing capabilities in Latin America, a region that has been a recent growth driver for Ivax," said Ivax Corporation chairman and CEO, Dr. Phillip Frost. "With modest enhancements, this facility can be used to produce products that can be sold in the United States and Europe, as well as other countries in Latin America," he added. Mexico is a potentially important market for Ivax and the Calzada del Hueso facility will increase Ivax Mexico's manufacturing capacity significantly.
