St. John's Medical College Hospital has launched 'Hrudaya Spandana' a scheme to offer free and concessional cardiac care to deserving and economically poor patients. The hospital has made an investment of over Rs 4 crore for a new state-of-the-art fully digitalised GE Innova 2000 cardio-vascular imaging system. The launch of the free/concessional cardiac care coincided with the opening of a state-of-the-art Cath Lab system. The hospital claims to be the first in the country to acquire a catherisation lab with cardiac spin capability. The other notable features are reduced x-ray dose to the patient and medical staff, reduced contrast dose, excellent image quality and long patient table allowing angioplasty of vessels from head to toe. The hospital has been managing to raise its own resources to fund the needy patients. "We now propose to meet the rising expenditure from philanthropists who can contribute to the recently instituted ‘Cardiology Poor Patients Fund'," informed sources from St. Johns Medical college Hospital.
