AICTE-sponsored seminar held in Pune

AICTE-sponsored one-day Seminar was organized on 31sl July 2004 at Maharashtra Academy of Engineering & Educational Research's Maharashtra Institute of Pharmacy, Pune. The theme of the seminar was 'Recent Trends in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology'. Dr. Kulvinder Singh Saini, director-Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Division, Ranbaxy Laboratories was the Chief Guest for the Seminar. Dr. V D Karad, founder / executive president, Maharashtra Academy of Engineering & Educational Research and UNESCO Chair Holder for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace for South East Asia presided over the function. Dr. Saini in his keynote address highlighted the importance of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in Drug Discovery. He also emphasized on individualized medicine would be now possible with new bio-molecules and will pave the way to personalized medicine. According to the statistics presented by him, In India, the Biotechnology Industry has seen exponential growth in last three years, with the number of companies competing in this arena increasing from less than 30 to almost 270, an official release said.
