A newly renovated and fully-equipped 125-bedded Lokmanya Hospital for handling complicated trauma cases would be thrown open to Puneites by the end of this month, as per details available from senior sources from the hospital. The hospital that would be located at Nigdi, along the Mumbai-Pune highway would initially be run as a specialised trauma centre and would later double up as an orthopaedic centre. To be led by Dr V G Vaidya, Orthopaedic & Spine Surgeon and executive medical director, Lokmanya Medical Foundation, the hospital, would be working in tandem with the local road authorities in making the 'Golden Hour Project', a steaming success. As per the norm, the hospital team would be providing life saving services to accident victims on site with help from their 'Mobile Trauma & Critical Care Units' that would be stationed at every toll nakas around state-highways and the vicinity. Till date, the Hospital has handled more than 10649 trauma care cases, more specifically road accidents that have occurred on highways. This includes all major highways that pass through Pune. The above figure makes the hospital the only hospital in the country to handle more than 10,000 trauma care cases in one year which includes everything from domestic to industrial accidents, the authorities claim. "This has been possible due to strategic location of our units, where the ambulances equipped with latest advanced equipments that acts as a mini ICU, are placed at every toll nakas so that any emergency calls made are attended to within 10 minutes," says Dr Vaidya. To be equipped with world-class infrastructure and cutting-edge technology, the renovated Hospital would be having a hi-tech spine care and an advanced trauma care centre. It would also have state-of-the-art operation theatre complex along with 150 consultant doctors & surgeons with online consultation facilities. Located in Pune, Lokmanya Medical Foundation today boasts of two ultra-modern hospitals: One in Chinchwad with 110 beds & the other in Nigdi with 125 beds. With more than three decades of success in quality and cost effective healthcare to its credit, Lokmanya Hospitals has established leadership in orthopaedic surgery, trauma care, cardiac care, holistic cancer care and critical care. The Hospital has tied-up with International Hospital Chain of Sweden & Saltlake hospitals, US in order to bring global standards in its service.
