OPPI provides relief to tsunami victims

Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) has offered to the government medicines and money for the victims of the Tsunami tidal wave. In a letter to the government, the president of OPPI, Ranjit Shahani has offered to donate sufficient supplies of medicines as required through its member firms. They will also contribute money and companies have agreed that the employees will pledge a day's wages, OPPI said in a release. "The OPPI members will be depositing relevant medicines like anti-pyretics and antibiotics at the Aventis depot in Chennai, from where the medicines will be transported to the collectorates at the Nagapatinam and Kanya Kumari districts of Tamil Nadu," said Homi Bhabha, director, OPPI told Pharmabiz. Other organisations like IPA and IDMA were also actively considering over providing assistance to the Tsunami victims. "IPA has deposited sum of Rs 1 crore with the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the victims. We are waiting for further instructions from the centre after which medicines meant for the victims will be dispatched," said DG Shah, secretary general, IPA. IDMA is also waiting for instructions for despatching medical aid, claimed officials.
