SIPS organises seminar on Intellectual Property Rights on Jan 16

A national seminar on Intellectual Property Rights in Drugs & Pharmaceuticals was organized by Sinhgad Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SIPS), Lonavala in coordination with Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC), Technology Information, Forecasting& Assessment Council (TIFAC) Dept. of Science & Technology on January 16, 2005 at STES, SIPS Lonavala. Inaugurating the seminar, Dr. Arun Nigavekar said that new patent regime would encourage invest in R&D for discovery of new drugs. Dozen top companies in India have invested large resources in the new drug discovery area, he added. He also inaugurated Health Care & Drug Information Centre. As insurance sector in healthcare is growing in India, it will also exert it pressure in years to come on drug companies to produce newer medicines of low cost, thereby cost of therapy remains low, Dr. Nair said. Dr. Arun Nigavekar was felicitated at the hands of Prof. M. N. Navale, president of Sinhgad Technical Education Society, for his significant contribution to reforms in Higher Education in the country. A. T. Patre, Asst. Controller of Patents, Mrs. Meghana More, IPR consultant of Kolkata based S. Mujumdar & Co and Yashwant Dev Panwar from Patent facilitating Centre, TIFAC, New Delhi were few other speakers of the seminar. It was attended by more than 100 teachers from pharmacy colleges of Maharashtra & professionals from Pharmaceutical industry.
