Indian wing of Siemens Medical Solutions is all set for a major expansion drive. The company, aiming at better growth rate in its revenue, plans to increase the manpower and production in its Goa facility.
The Goa plant, which mainly manufactures X-Ray related components, has the strength of 100 employees. The plant is all set to witness an increase of 10-15 per cent in its manpower soon. Along with the production side, the company focuses more on R&D and design segments. Presently, 30 per cent of the employees in the Goa facility are under R&D and design segments.
Talking to Pharmabiz, D Raghavan, executive vice president, Siemens Medical Solutions India said, “The Indian market for X-Ray equipments is estimated at Rs. 150 crore and Siemens has a 35 per cent share in that. While half of our production is mainly for domestic market, other half is for export. Aiming at maintaining a 30-50 per cent annual growth, we are planning to increase the manpower, especially in R&D and design section in Goa plant.”
“We have installed around 30,000 X-Ray units throughout the country,” he claims.
Siemens Medical Solutions is shifting its focus on rural areas by launching a number of mobile diagnostic centres in the country. This week, SMS’ 16th mobile diagnostic centre will be flagged of in Delhi.
“Our mobile diagnostic centre has the facilities for X-Ray, pathology, mammography, ultrasound etc. We set up the unit according to the needs of our customers. Most of them are NGOs or government institutions. The cost varies from Rs 80 lakhs to 1 crore,” informed Raghavan.
Last month, Siemens Medical Solutions has imported ‘Somatom definition,’ claimed to be the world's first dual source CT system, in India. It is approved in over 100 countries worldwide and used in over 10 million procedures per year.
The division had installed first PET/CT Cyclotron in the private sector in India at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad. It had also received a Rs. 30 crore order from the Ministry of Defence and Referral Army Hospital, New Delhi for research.
Siemens Medical Solutions is involved in number of segments like MRI, CT, cardiac angiography, nuclear medicine, linear accelerator, X-Ray and mammography.
