The actions of the state drug administrations of Maharashtra and Gujarat which resulted in a ban on Crocin quick, the fast moving drug brand of GSK has been flayed by a leading medical expert here.
Responding to the Pharmabiz query, Dr C M Gulhati, editor, Monthly Index of Medical Specialties (MIMS) said that the drug control administrations had no valid reason to ban the drug on safety concern.
"Crocin quick is a scientifically proven drug marketed in all developed countries. The active ingredient here is paracetamol with sodium acting just as an excepient. The state drug administrations have no reason to ban the drug," opined Dr. Gulhati.
"The drugs control administrations have taken the wrong decision to selectively punish the honest people. It is high time that they had a re-look at the number of illegal Fixed Dose Combinations (FDCs) they themselves have given over the years. How can they explain the act of sanctioning nimesulide + cetrizine + psuedoephedrine as an anti-cold preparation when nowhere in the world such combination exists?" he asked.
