The industrial promotional incentives offered by the central government seems to have paid rich dividends in the state of Jammu & Kashmir with over 100 pharmaceutical companies enrolling themselves for securing a space in the industrial zones of the state over the last couple of years. The presence of big names in domestic pharmaceuticals sector has added glitter to this achievement with companies like Ind-swift Pharmaceuticals, Dabur Pharma, Sun Pharma , Cadilla Pharma, Lupin Ltd and Medley Pharma having already advanced much in commissioning their newly set up units. According to sources associated with J & K State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO), the entire land earmarked for industries have been acquired by the companies, including the drug-manufacturing sector. The industrial parks in the state are now undergoing second and third phase of expansion, they informed. The entire sector of pharmaceutical industry, including manufacturers of bulk drugs, injectables, allopathic, homoeopathic and ayurveda formulations, has shown interest in the state, they added. "The fresh applications for setting up units in drugs and pharmaceutical sector are continuing to come especially because of the major fiscal incentives provided by the government" SIDCO sources said. The facilities provided include loan facility for a period of 10 years and 3 % interest subsidy on working capital. "Those who are interested in investing in this field will be entitled for 100% excise exemption for ten years, 100% income tax exemption for five years, and other incentives like exemption on sale tax, toll tax, stamp duty etc. The pharma companies can operate in a tension free environment. The fast paced industrialization will also create more employment in Jammu and Kashmir which is extremely important for the growth of the state" said sources.
