Revised guidelines on stem cell research to be notified soon

The revised national guidelines for stem cell research regulation, prepared by the joint effort of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), will be finalized very soon. The draft under discussion in the public domain and the authority has received the response from various parts of the scientific community. Though refused to reveal more about the matter, Dr. NK Ganguly, Director General, ICMR, told Pharmabiz that the authority is on its efforts to finalise the guideline very soon. As Pharmabiz reported earlier, the draft guidelines, which has been brought out about three years ago was finally planned to release by the month of January 2006. The major players in the industry are eagerly waiting for the draft to be finalized, as the companies can take bold steps on research and marketing once the terms being settled, according to sources from industry.
