Laurus Labs to manufacture small volume niche APIs

The newly established Laurus Labs with an R&D facility is planning to scale up its facilities in ICICI Knowledge Park, Hyderabad. The new facility with seven acres of land has a world-class built-in area of 160,000 sq ft with dedicated lab space for Chemical, Analytical and Dosage form laboratories including dedicated high potency labs. It will also house API scale up facility for small volume high potent molecules. The lab will have all modern equipment, scientific data management system and LIMS. The API and Dosage Form scale up facility will have three cGMP sections in each building including a section for highly potent molecules. Laurus will involve in process technologies for APIs such as process development, optimisation, scale-up and pilot production; development of formulations including generic formulations, novel non-infringing and also value added formulations; analytical services including development of analytical methods and validation, wet chemistry techniques, degradation studies, stability studies, impurity identifications; and manufacturing small volume niche APIs for registration and clinical trials. Laurus will specialise in high potent molecules. Laurus is positioning itself as a knowledge resource and solution designer and offer process chemistry and analytical services. Laurus will focus on developing non-infringing process/formations patents, alternate and cost effective synthetic routes and green chemistry. It will also develop specialised skills in certain high growth therapeutic segments and platform technologies. The company aims to develop a 300-member strong team by mid 2008.
