Our Bureau, MumbaiTuesday, July 25, 2006, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Academy of Intellectual Property Studies (AIPS) is organising a six-day workshop on patent specification drafting at the AIPS premises, Kalina, Mumbai, from September 6-11, 2006. The objective of the workshop is to provide the participants with a firm grounding in the nature and function of patent claims, including novelty and infringement. The participants will also work on the drafting of actual patent claims, both in groups and individually. The various exercises will cover apparatus claims, method claims and product by process claims, and it is expected that over the 6 days of the course, participants would have completed at least 10-15 thoroughly worked examples. Skills in the 'art and craft' of patent drafting will have been developed, which the participants could then apply to their own particular technology/field. One day of the workshop will be devoted to practical exercises relating to drafting of specifications of pharmaceutical/chemical patents. Bill Lloyd, a partner of a prestigious law firm, Australia, will be conducting most of the session with H. Subramaniam, a leading IP Attorney with more than 25 years of experience and also a member of the teaching faculty of TIFAC and Indian Law Institute, will train one day to the participants on pharma/chemical patents. Last date for registrations is August 28, 2006 For more details: contact Gita Chandrashekhar Tel: (22) 5622 1097/2650 9035 or e-mail gita@aips.ac.in or info@aips.ac.
